Project Description:
The Woodward & Lothrop Building in downtown Washington, DC fills nearly an entire city block, the building is significant historically and architecturally and a prominent landmark in the city. The Woodward & Lothrop Company started in business on the site in 1887 and was one of the first department stores in the country. The 8 story building was built in 6 phases from 1902 - 1926 and was the flagship store for "Woodies" until it vacated in 1995. The restoration project began in 2002 and included the historic renovation of the entire building and façade, complete upgrade of all infrastucture and services, the addition of two new office floors, a new office lobby, and historic restoration to meet the Department of Interior Standards to qualify for the Federal Historic Tax Credit. |
